Cooleemee Journal 64th Year No. 43 Republicans nosed out the Democrats in a close vote in the election Tuesday. Incumbents John Bailey and Jerry Swicegood were hard pressed to win back their seats over Democrats Lester Black welder and Junes A. Eaton. Bailey had an unofficial majority of 129 votes to win back his seat, and Swicegood had an unofficial majority of 150 votes. Joe Smith polled 2918 votes to 2664 for Grimes Hancock to win the sheriff's race. This gave a majority of 254 for Smith. Democrats Elected To House Democrats will represent Davie in the North Carolina House of Representatives for the first time in the past six years. J. P. Huskins and Arthur L. (Sap) Smith polled more than enough majority in Iredell County to over-ride their deficit in Davie and be elected as the representatives of the 39th House District. Gilbert Lee Boger polled 3061 votes in Davie and Homer Talbert had 3013. Huskins had 2225 and Smith 2146 in Davie. In Iredell County, Huskins bad 8,651 votes; Smith had 7,639; Tolbert 6,723; and Boger 5,967. This made for a total un official vote in the two counties as follows Huskins 10,876 Smith 9,785 Tolbert 9,736 Boger 9,018 District Judge Race Is Close John T. Brock of Davie Coun ty apparently has won one of the four judgeships of the 22nd Judicial District. With three precincts in Al exander County still unreport ed at press time, Brock was in third place in the four man race and his lead appeared sub stantial enough to assure him at least one ol the four posi tions. The unofficial vote total for the four counties involved (Davie. Davidson, Iredell and Alexander), with three precincts in Alexander still to report, was as follows: L. Roy Hughes (D) 25,304 Hubert E. Olive. Jr. (D) 28,223 John T. Brock (R) 28,167 Preston Cornelius (D) 24,818 Arthur Beckham (R) 24,728 C. H. Dearman (D) 24,493 Robert Bryant (R) 23,189 Lindsay Stafford (R) 22,725 Republicans Win County Offices Swicegood carried 9 precincts in amassing 2831 votes to lead the commissioner's ticket. (Butch) Zimmerman of Davidson County, a Democrat, polled 2443 votes in Davie. He Bloodmobile The Red Cross Bloodmobile will make its second visit of the 1970-71 year to Davie County next Wednesday, November Uth. Davie Libraij 5-3-65 rocksville, N C 27028 was unopposed for Superior Court Solicitor of the 2&id Judicial District and was elected to this position. Donald Bingham polled 3579 votes in Davie County and in the 25th Senatorial District to win this post.
